The Indian Statistical Institute was founded in Kolkata in 1931 by P.C. Mahalanobis, and it went on to shape modern statistics globally, the Mahalanobis distance, still used in machine learning today for anomaly detection, was developed here. IIT Kharagpur, in the wider Bengal region, adds a deep engineering and AI research base of its own. That heritage means Kolkata has genuine, homegrown statistical rigour to draw architectural standards from, not an imported framework, and it's part of why we hold model evaluation here to the same careful standard the city's own research tradition set decades ago.
Kolkata's trading economy, Burrabazar's wholesale markets, tea auctions that have set regional prices for generations, and business houses that have run for a century, is only now generating the kind of consistent digital transaction data a demand-forecasting or credit-risk model actually needs. Getting that transition right matters more here than the model itself: a prediction that contradicts decades of an owner's judgement without explaining why will get ignored, however accurate it turns out to be.
Akoode builds everything in-house, without subcontractors. We invoice in rupees with GST, contract under Indian law, and fly senior engineers from Gurugram to Kolkata for workshops, training, and launches. We plan project calendars around Durga Puja from the start, because nothing important gets decided in Kolkata that week.
