Built by a Team That Ships AI Products, Not Just Demos

Ottawa has already produced AI-enabled software that runs supply chains for some of the largest companies in the world, so local expectations for reliability at scale are high. Akoode keeps every Ottawa AI build entirely in-house, from discovery through deployment and monitoring.

A Roadmap You Can Set a Watch By

We build production-grade AI systems for Ottawa businesses. Every engagement follows a milestone-based roadmap, with data readiness assessed honestly at the start, not discovered as a surprise later.

Eastern Time Hours, Genuinely Covered

Our teams keep dedicated Canada-India overlap hours structured around Eastern Time, so Ottawa clients stay connected through Slack, Jira, and GitHub for the length of the engagement.

Built for Explainability, Not Just Accuracy

We design AI systems that can be audited and explained, not just ones that score well on a benchmark, because a model nobody can explain is a liability for an Ottawa business, not an asset.

Ratings That Hold Up Past Ottawa

Clutch and Google scores are earned across AI, mobile, and commerce work, delivered by engineers who build in RAG pipelines, computer vision, and production LLM integrations daily.

What clients love about working with us

Milestones That Land When Promised

Milestones get tracked and sprints held accountable, keeping AI engagements on schedule with visibility throughout, not just at the final demo.

Nothing Gets Buried in an Inbox

Planning, model reviews, and deployment happen live during dedicated overlap hours, not over a Slack thread nobody's watching.

Trusted With Real Production Data

Documented architecture and data-handling standards get defined upfront on every build, not worked out reactively after an incident.

A Long-Term AI Partner, Not a Vendor

Clients typically stay on well beyond launch, since an unmonitored model drifts, and we design for that reality from the very start.

Why Ottawa Businesses Choose Akoode

Kinaxis, headquartered in Ottawa, became a global leader in AI-enabled supply chain management by building machine learning that has to work correctly at genuinely enormous operational scale, not just in a controlled demo. We build every Ottawa AI project with that same respect for what happens when a model meets real production volume.

Eastern Time overlap. Our Canada-India delivery model is structured to provide dedicated overlap during Ottawa business hours for sprint planning, model reviews, and deployment. Pricing in CAD. Pricing is always scoped and billed in Canadian dollars, with nothing left ambiguous on currency.

In-house development, every model and pipeline written by our own engineers. One senior engineer stays with the project from discovery all the way through deployment. Privacy is part of the architecture, not an afterthought. PIPEDA, provincial equivalents, and Quebec's Law 25 inform the build from day one, with your legal team brought in for formal sign-off where needed.

Working Hours Built Around Eastern Time

Structured Canada-India overlap windows keep planning, model reviews, and deployment calls landing inside Ottawa's own working day.

Built With AI Technology Chosen to Last

Long-term reliability under real traffic is the rule here, frameworks and vector databases earn their place by holding up, not by trending. That keeps an Ottawa AI system maintainable years after launch, not just at release.

Sector Depth Beyond a Single Vertical

Deep delivery experience across Ottawa's dominant industries: Public Sector & Government, Logistics & Supply Chain, Telecommunication.

Support That Doesn't End at Deployment

Model monitoring, drift detection, and retraining continue after launch, so an Ottawa AI system stays accurate as real-world data shifts, not just on demo day.

The Six Things an Ottawa AI Engagement Actually Covers

Whether the client is a two-person Ottawa startup testing a first AI feature or an enterprise retooling a core workflow, every engagement covers the same ground: strategy, data readiness, model development, integration, and support that continues past launch day. Expect somewhere between CAD $8,000 for an API integration and CAD $60,000-plus for enterprise-scale or fine-tuned model work, based on current Canadian rates.

01

AI Strategy and Discovery for Ottawa Businesses

Most AI projects that go wrong go wrong before a single model gets trained, in the gap between what a Ottawa business wants and what its actual data can support. This begins with a genuinely honest assessment of data readiness, not a sales pitch wearing a roadmap's clothing.

  • Data readiness and quality assessment before any commitment is made
  • Use-case prioritization based on real business impact, not novelty
  • Build-versus-buy analysis for off-the-shelf APIs versus custom models
  • A scoped technical roadmap with realistic milestones
Tech Stack:Data Audit, Feasibility Study, Technical Roadmapping
02

Custom AI and Machine Learning Development in Ottawa

When an off-the-shelf API can't do what a Ottawa business actually needs, we build custom models: classification, prediction, and recommendation systems trained on real data, not a generic public dataset.

  • Custom classification, prediction, and recommendation models
  • Model training, validation, and performance benchmarking
  • MLOps pipelines for retraining as new data arrives
  • Explainability built in from the architecture stage, not bolted on
Tech Stack:PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, MLflow
03

Generative AI and LLM Integration for Ottawa Teams

We integrate LLMs into real business workflows for Ottawa teams, RAG pipelines grounded in a client's own documents, AI assistants that actually know the business, and content generation tools that don't hallucinate their way into a compliance problem.

  • RAG pipelines grounded in your own documents and data
  • In-app AI assistants using OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source models
  • Prompt engineering and evaluation frameworks, not guesswork
  • Guardrails and output validation built in from day one
Tech Stack:OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, Vector Databases
04

Computer Vision Development for Ottawa Businesses

From defect detection on a production line to document processing in a back office, we build computer vision systems for Ottawa businesses trained on real operational images, not stock photo datasets that fall apart in production.

  • Object detection, classification, and image segmentation
  • Document processing and optical character recognition
  • Quality inspection and defect detection for manufacturing
  • Real-time video analysis for production environments
Tech Stack:OpenCV, YOLO, PyTorch, Azure Computer Vision
05

AI-Powered Automation and Predictive Analytics in Ottawa

We build predictive models and automation that actually change how a Ottawa business operates, demand forecasting, anomaly detection, and workflow automation grounded in real historical data, not a dashboard nobody acts on.

  • Demand forecasting and anomaly detection models
  • Workflow automation triggered by predictive signals
  • Recommendation engines tuned to real customer behavior
  • Dashboards built for decisions, not just reporting
Tech Stack:Python, Pandas, Airflow, AWS SageMaker
06

MLOps and Post-Deployment AI Support in Ottawa

A model that isn't monitored drifts, quietly, until it's making bad decisions nobody notices until the damage is done. We provide ongoing monitoring, retraining, and performance tracking so an Ottawa AI system stays accurate as real-world data changes.

  • Model performance monitoring and drift detection
  • Scheduled retraining as new data becomes available
  • Cost and latency optimization for production inference
  • Flexible staff augmentation when an in-house team needs extra AI capacity
Tech Stack:MLflow, Weights & Biases, Docker, Kubernetes

How an AI Project Gets Built in Ottawa, Step by Step

Six stages that keep every Ottawa AI engagement transparent and accountable, from the first data conversation through deployment and beyond.

What's Actually Running Underneath an Ottawa AI Build

This stack reflects what actually works in production, not what's trending on a leaderboard. OpenAI and Anthropic APIs handle most generative AI needs. Custom PyTorch and TensorFlow models get used when off-the-shelf genuinely isn't enough. Nothing experimental gets introduced partway through a build.

AI Player Performance Tracking Case Study

Key Outcomes

10x

Faster Coaching

94%

Tracking Accuracy

Challenge

Performance coaching at the elite level demands data granularity that traditional video review simply cannot deliver. Coaching teams were spending enormous amounts of time rewatching unstructured footage, drawing conclusions by observation, and making player evaluation decisions without a single objective metric to support them. The problem was not effort. It was the absence of the right system.

What We Built

The client needed a next-generation AI system that could take raw, unstructured game footage and turn it into structured, real-time performance intelligence that coaching staff could act on immediately. Every objective defined at the start of this project was tied directly to a coaching workflow problem that needed solving.

AI-Powered Medical Diagnostic System

Key Outcomes

99.1%

Spine Detection Accuracy

98.4%

Chest Pathology Accuracy

Challenge

Radiology departments in emergency and trauma settings are caught between two pressures that pull in opposite directions. Imaging volumes keep rising. The tolerance for missed diagnoses stays at zero. A hairline cervical fracture overlooked during a busy overnight shift, or a pneumonia finding buried halfway down a full worklist, carries consequences that extend well beyond clinical error. Existing AI tools have added a third problem on top of both: they produce outputs without explanation, and clinicians who cannot see why a model flagged something are right to be cautious about acting on it.

What We Built

The brief was specific: a dual-stream diagnostic system that could detect cervical spine fractures at individual vertebra level and classify chest pathologies from X-rays, process each study in under two seconds, and present findings with visual explainability that clinicians could act on without second-guessing the model. Accuracy targets were set at specialist-comparable benchmarks. The clinical interface needed to triage automatically, not just classify.

AI-Powered Quantity Takeoff Desktop Application

Key Outcomes

80%

Time Reduction

Zero

Cloud Dependency

Challenge

Quantity takeoff is one of the most time-intensive stages of construction estimation, and it is one of the most resistant to standard automation. Engineering drawings are large, dense, and proprietary. The elements that need counting are small, numerous, and visually similar across categories. Cloud-based AI tools introduce data security risks that firms working on sensitive or high-value projects cannot accept. The result is an industry where experienced estimators spend a disproportionate share of their time on a counting task that technology should have solved years ago.

What We Built

The brief required a production-ready desktop application that could automate quantity takeoff from architectural and engineering drawings, run entirely offline, and produce professional cost estimate outputs without requiring any cloud connectivity. Every objective connected directly to the operational reality of a construction estimator working with sensitive, large-format blueprint files under time pressure.

Every Model Stays In-House, Start to Finish

Every engagement stays fully in-house, no subcontracting and no white-labelling at any stage. Clients get direct access to the people actually building the AI system, ML engineers and data scientists included, no middle layer.

AI Built to Earn Enterprise Trust

AI gets built into the working product from the first sprint here, not layered on afterward, with each feature judged on real production value, not how it looks in a demo.

One Senior Engineer Owns the Whole Build

A senior engineer leads every Ottawa project, directly involved in architecture decisions, model reviews, and deployment, writing code alongside the team rather than managing tickets from a distance.

Trust-Grade Compliance From the First Sprint

PIPEDA, and any relevant sector rule, all get built into an Ottawa AI system from the first design sprint, rather than left as a last-minute scramble before launch.

Ways of Working That Fit How Ottawa Teams Actually Operate

Pick the model that fits your team. All of them come with dedicated engineers, full IP ownership, and direct access to the people actually building your AI system.

Questions Ottawa Clients Actually Ask

Straight answers on process, pricing, timelines, compliance, and what working with Akoode actually looks like for Ottawa AI projects.

Real 2026 Canadian AI pricing breaks into three tiers. API integrations connecting an LLM into an existing product run CAD $8,000 to $15,000. A custom model trained on your own data typically runs CAD $15,000 to $50,000. Enterprise or fine-tuned model work starts from CAD $60,000. Discovery narrows that down to a specific number once we understand your actual data.
There's no default here, it genuinely depends on the task. APIs from OpenAI or Anthropic cover most generative use cases quickly and affordably. A custom model is worth building when your data or your problem is specific enough that a general-purpose model falls short. We figure out which one after discovery, not before.
There's no minimum size. Early-stage startups, growth-stage companies scaling an existing AI feature, and enterprise teams running full transformation programs are all part of the client mix, with the engagement adjusted accordingly.
Our teams operate dedicated Canada-India overlap hours structured around Eastern Time, so Ottawa clients get real-time collaboration during planning, model reviews, and deployment through Slack, Jira, GitHub, and weekly sprint reporting.
Think full unit versus targeted placement. A dedicated team hands you a complete AI unit as an extension of your organization. Staff augmentation embeds one or two specialist engineers into a team structure you already have.
Fill out the contact form on this page and it goes straight to a senior team member, who replies within one business day. For projects with meaningful data complexity, a paid discovery phase usually comes first, so the scope reflects reality rather than a guess.
We handle this at the architecture stage, not left as a scramble before launch. For any system processing personal data, we map federal PIPEDA requirements, with added attention to the public-sector security standards common among Ottawa's federal government clients into the model design from the first sprint, including how a decision can be explained if a client is ever asked to justify one.
Baseline support covers monitoring, drift detection, and keeping infrastructure current as underlying models evolve. Most clients then add scheduled retraining as new data comes in, plus latency or cost optimization once real production volume kicks in.
Data readiness drives the timeline more than scope does. Expect four to six weeks for a straightforward API integration, eight to fourteen weeks for a custom model, and longer than that if the data needs meaningful cleanup before training can even start.
We handle both cases regularly. Most engagements are AI integrated into something that already exists, designed to fit the existing architecture rather than sit apart from it as its own separate thing.
This happens on most projects, honestly. Discovery exists specifically to catch it early. If your data needs real cleanup before training, that gets scoped as its own piece of work rather than buried inside a build that would otherwise produce an unreliable model.
We do this often enough to have a set process: a technical audit of the model and data pipeline first, then a quality and risk assessment before we produce a remediation plan and continue development.
Yes, always, ahead of any detailed technical or commercial discussion. IP ownership for everything produced, models included, transfers fully to the client once the engagement is complete.
Not yet, and this genuinely surprises a lot of clients. The Artificial Intelligence and Data Act, which would have been Canada's first comprehensive AI law, died along with Bill C-27 when Parliament was prorogued in January 2025, and it hasn't been reintroduced. What actually governs AI in Canada today is a patchwork: PIPEDA and provincial equivalents for personal data, Quebec's Law 25 for automated-decision transparency specifically, and sector rules like OSFI's Guideline E-23 for federally regulated financial institutions. We build to that real patchwork, not a law that doesn't exist yet.
We strongly recommend it, and most clients keep it. Models drift silently as production data changes, and catching that early is far cheaper than fixing it after something visibly breaks. Monitoring, drift detection, and retraining are available as a retainer or picked up as needed.
Our strongest sector experience in the Ottawa AI market covers Public Sector & Government, Logistics & Supply Chain, Telecommunication, with data-handling and explainability standards built to what those industries actually require.
